Mark Gregson – Walters

Director of Instructions

Mark Gregson-Walters has over 17 years experience working in Dubai.

He has been the Head Professional Coach at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club Golf Academy. Director of Instruction at the Academy by Troon Golf at the Montgomerie Dubai. Director of instruction for Peter Cowen Golf Academy at Emirates G.C. then created MGW Golf Academy based out of EGC with focus on Grass Roots Golf in schools (an award winning program) through to teaching European Tour Professionals.

Over this period Mark has had success with European Tour, Asian Tour, MENA Tour, Ladies European Tour players. Amateurs who have won all the major tournaments in the UAE and Juniors who have successfully developed in to US College players.

Mark has jointly created the app GML which is a golf specific physical training program. Mark still enjoys coaching international and local amateur golfers, enabling them to succeed in achieving their own personal goals.

Andy Carter

Teaching Professional

Andrew Carter found his love for golf aged 12 alongside his love for Football but soon golf became his number 1 passion.

He turned pro in 2007 aged 21 after five years studying Golf and Sports Management at Myerscough College in Preston, UK.

Andrew then moved to Ireland to embark on his career within the PGA working at Hollywood Lakes GC and the highly rated Island Golf Club where he spent five fantastic years coaching and welcoming golfers from all over the world.

In 2013, Andrew moved back to Manchester to coach full time at Europe’s 2nd largest driving range – Trafford Golf Centre. Here he developed his coaching style and expertise to quickly develop into a Senior PGA Teaching Professional, coaching beginner to tour level calibre golfer.

Andrew still enjoys competing and in 2016 qualified for the final stage of the Open Championship qualification, competing against the likes of Colin Montgomerie.

This desire to continue playing tournaments allows Andrew to stay connected and engaged to golfers and their struggles with our beautiful game.

Tim Backhouse

Teaching Professional

Tim was introduced to the game of golf at the age of 7; he won numerous tournaments as an amateur in both junior and men’s events, playing as a member of both the Cheshire junior and men’s elite squads before turning professional at the age of 23. He played on local professional tours and competed in PGA events nationally including the English PGA Championship and PGA Club Professional’s championship in the UK.

Having worked at his home club of Bromborough golf club in the North West of England for 7 years as assistant professional Tim moved to The Royal golf club in Bahrain as senior teaching professional where he coached all levels of golfing ability, from national team members to entry level golfers, including developing a strong junior team which included boys who competed in worldwide junior competitions.

He has also played and worked with European tour players, giving him priceless knowledge and experience to pass onto pupils of his own. Keeping thoughts and technique as simple as possible.

Michael Sweenie

Teaching Professional

Starting the game at the age of 13 years old after a sporting childhood and a love for fitness, Michael quickly developed into a scratch golfer and joined the Professional team at the world renowned Turnberry in 2005. As a young keen assistant Michael quickly developed a passion for golf coaching and began continually studying and working alongside some of the world’s leading golf coaches, such as the legendary Scottish coach Bob Torrance who was instrumental in helping Michael get access to some of the top Players on European Tour. Michael helped develop the Colin Montgomerie Links Golf Academy, and then was instrumental in creating the launch of the Turnberry Performance Academy as Performance Academy manager in 2012. A facility which would be focused on the holistic approach to golf coaching including physical, technical, tactical and mental player development.

In 2015 looking to gain international experience, Michael joined IMG management group as a Head Professional to set up a world class golf academy at Dreamland Golf Club in Baku, Azerbaijan. After 3 years in Baku also working as the National Golf Coach Michael was able to create a world class practice facility, along with a highly successful national and junior development program in an emerging golf market.

Excited to join the team at ETPI Michael brings a real passion and knowledge to the team as a performance focused golf coach looking to maximize every players playing standard whilst utilizing the world class facilities available at ETPI and JGE – and ultimately help all clients enjoy the game of golf more. Michael coaching philosophy is based on a holistic approach, coaching players of all levels from beginners to touring professionals. Michael is a great believer in that your swing should be based on your physical capabilities, and will structurally test each individual to find their optimum swing
